Humanoid Robots in Logistics and Warehouses

Logistics is the proving ground for humanoid robots. Here is what Digit, Apollo, and others actually do in warehouses in 2026.

Logistics is the proving ground for humanoid robots, because the work suits them. Warehouses are structured, the tasks repeat, and a lot of the job is picking up a tote here and setting it down there. That plays to what humanoids can do reliably today.

The reference deployment is Agility Robotics’ Digit, which has been working in a GXO Logistics warehouse on a paid robots-as-a-service contract since mid-2024. It is widely cited as the only Western humanoid that has moved past pilots into a real commercial deployment. Digit’s bird-like backward-bending legs are tuned for exactly this, moving bins efficiently rather than looking human.

Apptronik’s Apollo targets the same space with a 25 kg payload and a modular body that can run on legs, wheels, or a fixed base. It is in an R&D program with GXO as well, the same logistics giant. Amazon has run warehouse trials with Digit through its Industrial Innovation Fund.

The economics here are the clearest in the industry. A warehouse runs known tasks at high volume, which makes it easier to justify a robot and easier to measure whether it pays off. That is why logistics, more than the home or healthcare, is where humanoids are most likely to earn their keep first.
